As a Ph.D. student in good standing at the Indiana University School of Medicine you will:
  • receive a competitive annual stipend ($24,000 for the 2009-2010 academic year);
  • receive a tuition scholarship each academic year (valued at approximately $15,000 for out-of-state students and $4,000 for in-state-students as of 2009);
  • receive health insurance and dental coverage (valued at $1,900 per academic year as of 2009);
  • have the freedom to explore research areas through three 8-week rotations in hundreds of world-class research laboratories and 39 research centers and institutes;
  • participate in a modern integrated curriculum;
  • participate in interactive seminar courses that will provide you the skills required for research in the life sciences (i.e. ethics, research methods, professional skills, biostatistics, and scientific understanding); 
  • select second semester courses consistent with your likely Ph.D. program;
  • have the ability to choose entry into any of the 10 Ph.D. programs at the conclusion of your first academic year; and,
  • live in a vibrant city with outstanding attractions, rich culture, big city amenities, and a very affordable cost of living (Indianapolis is about 8% less expensive to live and work compared to other comparable locations in the Midwest).
